Installation Guide
Safety Warning
Improper installation can result in serious injury or death. If you are not confident in your ability to safely install this equipment, hire a professional installer or consult with a structural engineer.
What's Included
- 1 × Kezo climbing hangboard (600 × 140 × 45 mm)
- 5 × Wood screws (5 × 70/42 mm, PZ2 drive head)
- 5 × Nylon wall anchors (ø8 × 51 mm) - for solid concrete only
Tools You'll Need
- Power drill
- 8 mm masonry drill bit (for concrete/brick) or 3-4 mm wood drill bit
- PZ2 (Pozidriv #2) screwdriver or drill bit
- Spirit level or laser level
- Pencil for marking
- Measuring tape
- Vacuum cleaner (recommended for dust removal)
Wall Requirements - Critical
✓ Suitable Wall Types
- • Solid concrete walls (poured concrete, not aerated concrete blocks)
- • Dense, solid brick walls (test by tapping - should sound solid, not hollow)
- • Solid wood structural beams or load-bearing timber walls
✗ Unsuitable Wall Types (DO NOT INSTALL)
- • Drywall / plasterboard / gypsum board (unless anchored to studs with proper backing board)
- • Hollow walls, thin partition walls
- • Plastered walls without solid backing
⚠️ If your wall contains hidden electrical wiring or plumbing, use a stud/pipe detector before drilling.
Installation Steps
Step 1: Choose Mounting Height
Position the hangboard so that when standing on the ground with arms fully extended overhead, you can just barely reach the top edge. This typically places the board 200-240 cm from the floor, depending on your height.
Step 2: Mark Mounting Holes
- Hold the hangboard against the wall at your chosen height.
- Use a spirit level to ensure the board is perfectly horizontal.
- While keeping the board level, mark all 5 mounting holes with a pencil through the board.
- Double-check the board is still level before removing it.
- Carefully remove the board without disturbing the wall marks.
Step 3: Drill Holes
For Solid Concrete Walls:
- Use an 8 mm masonry drill bit with hammer drill mode (impact drilling).
- Drill holes 60 mm deep minimum, straight and perpendicular to wall surface.
- Clean dust from holes thoroughly - use vacuum cleaner or blow out repeatedly until no dust emerges. This is critical for anchor grip.
- For brick walls: Check if brick is solid (not hollow) by tapping. If hollow or crumbly, do not install.
For Solid Wood Beams:
- Use a 3-4 mm pilot hole drill bit (about 70% of screw diameter to prevent wood splitting).
- Drill pilot holes 50-60 mm deep, straight and perpendicular to the surface.
- Do NOT use plastic anchors for solid wood - screws only.
Step 4: Install Anchors (Concrete Only)
- Insert nylon anchors (ø8 × 51 mm) into drilled holes by hand.
- Tap anchors gently with a hammer until fully flush with wall surface.
- Test each anchor - try to pull it out with pliers. It should not move or spin.
- If an anchor spins freely, the hole may be too large or concrete is damaged - drill a new hole in a different location.
⚠️ IMPORTANT: Skip this step for solid wood installations - use screws directly into pilot holes without anchors.
Step 5: Mount the Hangboard
- Align the hangboard with drilled holes and insert all 5 screws finger-tight (don't tighten yet).
- Place spirit level on top of the board and verify it's perfectly horizontal.
- If not level, loosen screws slightly and adjust, then re-check.
- Once level, fully tighten the two outermost screws first (left and right edges).
- Tighten the center screw fully.
- Finally, tighten the two remaining screws fully.
- Double-check all screws are flush with the board surface and firmly tightened.
Step 6: Safety Check
- Inspect all screws - ensure they are flush with the board surface and fully tightened.
- Gently pull down on the board with increasing force to test stability.
- Check that there is no movement, flexing, or creaking sounds.
- Inspect the wall around mounting points for cracks or damage.
If you notice any movement, creaking, or instability, DO NOT USE. Remove the board and consult a professional installer.
Maintenance & Inspection
Before Every Use:
- • Visually inspect all mounting screws for looseness
- • Check wood for cracks, splits, or damage
- • Test stability by pulling down firmly on edges
Monthly:
- • Tighten all screws if needed (wood can settle over time)
- • Inspect wall area around screws for cracks or deterioration
- • Clean dust and chalk residue with a dry cloth
Replace the hangboard immediately if you notice:
- • Deep cracks in the wood (especially near mounting holes or edges)
- • Structural damage or splintering
- • Any movement or looseness that cannot be fixed by tightening screws
Training Edge Reference
Your Kezo hangboard has three edge depths for progressive training:
- • 45 mm - RELAX: Beginner-friendly edge, ideal for warm-ups and longer hangs
- • 20 mm - STANDARD: Intermediate training edge for building finger strength
- • 15 mm - GOOD LUCK: Advanced edge for experienced climbers only
Always warm up thoroughly before training. Start with easier edges and progress gradually. Hangboard training puts significant stress on fingers and tendons - improper use can cause serious injuries.
